WHAT BAPTISM SIGNIFIES

The next Baptism Service will be Sunday, October 24.

Water baptism is a ceremony that symbolizes the beginning of our spiritual lives. It is a way to publicly say goodbye to our life outside of Christ (Romans 6:1-4).

The New Testament consistently speaks of water baptism in the context of a saving faith on Christ (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Only those who have committed their lives to Christ are to be baptized.

We believe that water baptism is one of the two ordinances or commands (the Lord’s supper being the other) given to the church by Christ. Although obedience to these are commanded, they are to be understood as memorials, a way of remembering our connection with the sacrifice of Christ. There is no saving power in simply participating in the event. Any spiritual benefit comes out of the faithful obedience of one’s heart.

Baptism is a symbol of Christ’s burial and resurrection (I Cor 15:3, Colossians 2:12), and it is a symbol of your new life as a Christian, (2 Cor 5:17, Romans 6:4) – an outer symbol that you are a believer.

Baptism services are performed periodically throughout the year. Contact Pastor David Kennard if you have an interest in participating in the next ceremony.
